From a BEP (vocational training certificate) in bodywork to his arrival at Forécreu, meet Gaëtan, Kocks operator.
To begin with, can you tell us about your day-to-day responsibilities as a Rolling Mill/Kocks operator at Forécreu?
As a Rolling Mill/Kocks Operator, my role is to supervise the manufacture of bars for the orthopedic medical market and cutting tools. This involves complex operations such as diameter reduction, cage assembly and disassembly, projector settings, and much more. The diversity of tasks makes each day unique and stimulating. Working in pairs, team coordination and efficiency are paramount to the success of our operations.
What is your educational background? How did you get to Forécreu?
After a BEP (vocational training certificate) in bodywork, I explored a number of different avenues, including plastering/painting for 8 years. My first contact with Forécreu was through a temporary employment agency. I started out as a temp for 2 months, then moved on to a 6-month fixed-term contract. Finally, Forécreu offered me a permanent contract, which enabled me to develop fully in my job.
What fascinates you about the industrial sector, and why did you choose this career path?
What I like about the industry is the precision of the work on the machines, especially everything to do with assembly, disassembly and adjustments. Every day is an adventure with varied challenges, far removed from preconceived ideas of the monotony of industry. Contributing to the production of concrete elements and seeing the constant improvement in quality are gratifying aspects of my work.
What advice would you give to a young person looking to enter the industry?
I’d say don’t hesitate to take the plunge, perhaps starting out as a temp to explore the different branches and assignments. There are lots of opportunities in the industry, with the chance to learn and progress every day. Curiosity and a willingness to move forward are essential assets in this sector. The satisfaction of contributing to the production of concrete elements used on a daily basis is a unique and gratifying experience.
